Shopkeepers Seek Rehabilitation Before Modinagar ROB Construction
Modinagar: Around 50 tenant shopkeepers operating for years at Mahalakshmi Market, Indira Complex and Raj Complex near Raj Chowpla are seeking a solution to their concerns regarding the proposed ROB construction.
The shopkeepers have clarified that they are not opposed to development work or the construction of the ROB. However, they are seeking a proper solution and alternative arrangements before construction affects shops and the livelihoods of the traders operating there.
Collective Memorandum Submitted on September 10
According to the shopkeepers, a collective memorandum regarding the problems and rehabilitation of traders likely to be affected by the proposed ROB construction was submitted to the ADM/LAO, Ghaziabad, on September 10, 2026.
The shopkeepers were later informed that the memorandum had been forwarded to the concerned office. They have now sought effective action from the administration regarding their concerns.
Demand for Survey and Verification of Affected Shops
The shopkeepers have demanded that a survey and verification of the affected shops be conducted before the ROB construction begins.
They have also sought the inclusion of tenancy-related documents and other available records in the official record so that the status of genuinely affected businesses can be established.
Alternative Commercial Space and Rehabilitation Sought
The affected traders have requested the administration to examine the possibility of providing alternative commercial space or rehabilitation arrangements.
They have also suggested examining the feasibility of a common commercial complex or alternative shops for the businesses that may be affected by the project.
Meeting With Municipal Officials Sought
The shopkeepers have demanded a meeting with the Chairperson and Executive Officer of the Modinagar Municipal Council, along with officials from the concerned departments.
They want their concerns to be heard and a practical solution regarding rehabilitation or alternative commercial arrangements to be worked out before the ROB construction affects their businesses.
According to the shopkeepers, such an arrangement could allow the development work to proceed while also addressing the livelihood concerns of traders who have been operating in the area for years.
