Modinagar Smart Meter Protest : मोदीनगर (गाजियाबाद) में स्मार्ट प्रीपेड मीटर के विरोध में किसानों और मजदूरों ने जोरदार प्रदर्शन किया। भारतीय किसान मजदूर मोर्चा के बैनर तले बड़ी संख्या में लोग तहसील परिसर में एकत्र हुए। प्रदर्शनकारियों का आरोप है कि स्मार्ट मीटरों में बिजली की रीडिंग वास्तविक से अधिक दिखाई जा रही है, जिससे बिजली बिल अनावश्यक रूप से बढ़ रहे हैं। इससे आम लोगों पर आर्थिक दबाव बढ़ रहा है।
प्रीपेड सिस्टम से बढ़ी परेशानी
किसानों और मजदूरों का कहना है कि एडवांस रिचार्ज प्रणाली गरीब वर्ग के लिए बोझ बन गई है। रिचार्ज खत्म होने पर बिजली कट जाती है और कई दिनों तक आपूर्ति बहाल नहीं होती, जिससे दैनिक जीवन प्रभावित होता है।
सरकार से योजना वापस लेने की मांग
भारतीय किसान मजदूर मोर्चा के नेता बबली गुर्जर ने कहा कि सरकार को स्मार्ट मीटर योजना पर तुरंत रोक लगानी चाहिए। उन्होंने सुझाव दिया कि गांवों में स्मार्ट मीटर लगाने की बजाय शिक्षा और स्वास्थ्य सुविधाओं पर ध्यान दिया जाए।
प्रशासन को सौंपा ज्ञापन
प्रदर्शनकारियों ने प्रशासन को ज्ञापन सौंपकर पुराने मीटर बहाल करने और स्मार्ट मीटर योजना को समाप्त करने की मांग की। साथ ही चेतावनी दी कि मांगें पूरी न होने पर आंदोलन और तेज किया जाएगा।

The protesters alleged that smart meters are showing higher-than-actual electricity readings, leading to unnecessarily inflated power bills. This has increased financial pressure on common people.
Issues with Prepaid System
Farmers and workers said that the advance recharge system has become a burden for the poor. Once the recharge expires, electricity supply is cut off, and it often takes several days to restore it, severely affecting daily life.
Demand to Roll Back the Scheme
Babli Gurjar, leader of the Indian Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, demanded that the government immediately halt the smart meter scheme. He suggested that instead of installing smart meters in villages, the government should focus on improving education and healthcare facilities.
Memorandum Submitted to Authorities
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the administration demanding the restoration of old meters and the cancellation of the smart prepaid meter scheme.
