अलिपुरद्वार/तारापीठ। पश्चिम बंगाल के बीरभूम जिले के तारापीठ में सोमवार तड़के एक होटल में भीषण आग लगने से हड़कंप मच गया। इस हादसे में अलिपुरद्वार और कूचबिहार से आए 12 लोगों का परिवार बाल-बाल बच गया। इनमें दो नाबालिग भी शामिल थे। परिवार सोमवार रात सुरक्षित अपने घर लौट आया, लेकिन हादसे की दहशत अब भी उनके चेहरों पर साफ दिखाई दे रही है।
सुबह करीब 5 बजे सुनाई दी चीखें
अलिपुरद्वार शहर के देबीनगर निवासी हार्डवेयर कारोबारी उत्तम साहा शुक्रवार सुबह अपने परिवार और ससुराल पक्ष के सदस्यों के साथ झारखंड के देवघर गए थे। इसके बाद रविवार दोपहर परिवार के 12 सदस्य तारापीठ पहुंचे और बिदेशिनी होटल में ठहरे। सोमवार सुबह उन्हें तारापीठ मंदिर में पूजा करनी थी।
लेकिन सोमवार तड़के करीब 5 बजे होटल में अचानक आग लग गई। उत्तम साहा ने बताया कि उनकी नींद चीख-पुकार से खुली। उन्हें पहले लगा कि सड़क पर किसी वाहन में आग लगी है। जैसे ही वह पहली मंजिल के कमरे की बालकनी में पहुंचे, उन्हें होटल में आग लगने का पता चला।
बालकनी और पेड़ ने बचाई जान
साहा के मुताबिक, परिवार के 12 लोग दो बड़े कमरों में ठहरे हुए थे। आग तेजी से फैल रही थी और कमरे की दीवारें गर्म होने लगी थीं। फॉल्स सीलिंग में भी आग पकड़ने लगी थी।
उन्होंने तुरंत दूसरे कमरे में जाकर अपनी पत्नी और अन्य परिजनों को सतर्क किया। इसके बाद अपने कमरे में मौजूद चार लोगों को बालकनी में लेकर पहुंचे।
बालकनी के ठीक सामने एक पेड़ दिखाई दिया। बाहर निकलने का कोई दूसरा रास्ता नहीं होने पर परिवार के सदस्यों ने पेड़ के सहारे नीचे उतरने का फैसला किया। सभी लोग एक-एक करके पेड़ से नीचे उतरे। इस दौरान उन्हें मामूली चोटें भी आईं, लेकिन उनकी जान बच गई।
सात लोग दूसरे कमरे में फंसे
दूसरे कमरे में अभी सात लोग फंसे हुए थे। इनमें साहा की पत्नी मिताली, उनकी बड़ी बहन और 17 वर्षीय भांजा भी शामिल था। साहा ने होटल के अंदर पड़ी एक सीढ़ी देखी और उसे दूसरे कमरे की बालकनी तक पहुंचाया।
सीढ़ी की मदद से चार लोग नीचे उतरने में सफल रहे। लेकिन साहा का 17 वर्षीय भांजा, जिसे हल्की शारीरिक परेशानी है, डर के कारण सीढ़ी से नीचे उतरने की स्थिति में नहीं था। मिताली और उनकी बहन ने भी उसके साथ रहने का फैसला किया।
धुएं और आग के बीच फंसे तीन लोगों को दमकलकर्मियों ने बचाया
मिताली के अनुसार, उस समय कमरे और गलियारे में धुआं और आग तेजी से फैल रही थी। तीनों ने एक-दूसरे का साथ नहीं छोड़ने का फैसला किया।
इसी बीच दमकलकर्मी मौके पर पहुंच गए। उत्तम साहा ने उन्हें तीन लोगों के कमरे में फंसे होने की जानकारी दी। दमकलकर्मियों ने आपातकालीन निकास का रास्ता तोड़कर तीनों को सुरक्षित बाहर निकाल लिया।
इस तरह परिवार के सभी 12 सदस्य सुरक्षित बच गए।
सामान बचा, लेकिन पानी से भीग गया
आग पर काबू पाने के बाद परिवार दोबारा अपने कमरों में गया और अपना सामान बाहर निकाला। हालांकि, दमकलकर्मियों की कार्रवाई के दौरान पानी भर जाने के कारण उनका सामान पूरी तरह भीग गया था।
परिवार के सदस्यों ने इस घटना को किसी चमत्कार से कम नहीं बताया। उनका कहना है कि बालकनी के सामने मौजूद पेड़ और समय पर पहुंची दमकल टीम ने उनकी जिंदगी बचाने में अहम भूमिका निभाई।
Balcony Proved to Be a Blessing: 12-Member Alipurduar Family Escapes Tarapith Hotel Fire
Alipurduar/Tarapith: A 12-member family group from Alipurduar and Cooch Behar, including two minors, had a miraculous escape after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in Tarapith, Birbhum, West Bengal, early Monday morning.
The family returned home safely on Monday night, but the survivors said they were still shaken by the terrifying experience and found it difficult to believe they had escaped alive.
Family Had Travelled to Deoghar and Tarapith
Uttam Saha, a hardware merchant from Debinagar in Alipurduar town, had travelled to Jharkhand’s Deoghar on Friday morning with his family and members of his in-laws’ family from Dinhata in Cooch Behar.
The group of 12 reached Tarapith on Sunday afternoon and checked into the Bideshini Hotel. They were scheduled to visit the Tarapith temple for puja on Monday morning.
However, their plans changed dramatically when a fire broke out at the hotel in the early hours of Monday.
Screams of “Fire, Fire” Woke Them Up
Uttam Saha said he woke up at around 5 am after hearing people screaming, “Fire, fire.”
Initially, he thought a vehicle on the road had caught fire. But when he stepped onto the balcony of his first-floor room, he realised that the hotel itself was on fire.
The situation quickly became dangerous as the walls of the room became extremely hot and the false ceiling started catching fire.
Tree Outside Balcony Helped Save Five Lives
All 12 members of the group were staying in two large rooms. Saha immediately rushed to the other room to alert his wife and relatives.
He then brought four members of his room onto the balcony and urged everyone to remain calm.
A tree stood directly in front of the balcony. With no other safe escape route available, the group decided to climb down using the tree.
One by one, they climbed down to safety.
Saha said he was initially worried that the young tree might not be strong enough to support their weight, but fortunately it held. The family members suffered minor injuries but managed to escape.
Seven Family Members Were Still Trapped
Seven people remained trapped inside the other room, including Saha’s wife Mitali, her elder sister and his 17-year-old nephew.
Saha noticed a ladder lying inside the hotel. He quickly brought it and placed it against the balcony of the room where his relatives were trapped.
Four people managed to climb down using the ladder.
However, Saha’s 17-year-old nephew, who has a slight physical disability, became frightened and was unable to attempt the escape. Mitali and her sister decided to stay with him.
By then, smoke and flames had spread into the corridor.
Firefighters Rescue Three Trapped Members
Firefighters had arrived at the hotel by that time. Saha informed them that three members of his family were still trapped inside.
The firefighters broke through an emergency exit and successfully rescued Mitali, her sister and the 17-year-old boy.
All 12 members of the group were eventually brought to safety.
Belongings Recovered but Soaked
After the fire was brought under control, the family returned to their rooms and recovered their belongings. However, most of their possessions were soaked because of the water used during the firefighting operation.
For the family, the incident was nothing short of a miracle. The balcony, the tree outside the hotel and the timely intervention of firefighters played a crucial role in ensuring that all 12 members survived the Tarapith hotel fire.
