Amit Shah Challenges Rahul Gandhi to Debate in Parliament, Targets Congress Over SIR
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to debate in Parliament instead of holding political discussions on the streets. Responding to Gandhi’s challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah said the government was ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Speaking at a rally in Haryana’s Karnal, Shah also criticised the Congress over its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and questioned the party’s allegations surrounding the electoral process.
Amit Shah Asks Rahul Gandhi to Debate in Parliament
Amit Shah directly challenged Rahul Gandhi to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi if he wanted a discussion on the SIR exercise.
The Home Minister said the government was prepared to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the matter and asked the Congress leader to participate in a debate inside the House.
Shah said, “If you want a discussion, simply write a letter to PM Modi. We are ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the SIR exercise. Come and debate in Parliament.”
His remarks came amid the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and Congress over electoral processes and the demand for a public debate between their senior leaders.
Rahul Gandhi Challenges PM Modi for a Debate
The exchange followed Rahul Gandhi’s November 3 challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking his second such invitation.
In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi asked the Prime Minister to choose any stage or venue for a debate.
He raised questions about who was anti-national, who had connections with foreign forces, and the nature of those alleged connections.
Gandhi also called for the debate to take place as soon as possible, saying that both leaders, the media and the country’s youth should be present.
Amit Shah Targets Congress Over SIR and Gyanesh Kumar
During his Karnal rally, Amit Shah also criticised the Congress over its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Referring to the 2014, 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Shah argued that the Congress had faced electoral defeats even when the SIR exercise was not conducted.
He questioned the party’s allegations and said that Congress had lost elections in different states despite the absence of SIR.
Shah also referred to elections in Haryana and Maharashtra while targeting the opposition party over its criticism of the electoral process.
Home Minister Accuses Congress of Disrupting Parliament
Amit Shah further accused the Congress of disrupting parliamentary proceedings and organising street protests instead of allowing discussions inside Parliament.
He criticised the party’s protests and boycotts, arguing that political issues should be discussed through parliamentary proceedings.
The latest remarks have intensified the political exchange between the BJP and Congress over the SIR exercise, electoral accountability and Rahul Gandhi’s challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a debate.
