महिलाओं का अनोखा विरोध
महिलाएं सिर पर स्मार्ट मीटर लेकर बिजली ऑफिस पहुंचीं और विभाग के खिलाफ नारेबाजी की। विरोध इतना बढ़ गया कि ग्रामीण धरने पर बैठ गए और मीटर हटाने की मांग करने लगे।
ज्यादा बिल और तकनीकी शिकायतें
ग्रामीणों का आरोप है कि स्मार्ट मीटर तेज रीडिंग दिखाते हैं, जिससे कम बिजली उपयोग के बावजूद अधिक बिल आता है। कई मामलों में बिना उपयोग के भी बैलेंस कम हो जाता है और बिजली कट जाती है। लोगों का कहना है कि रिचार्ज करने के बाद भी कई बार बिजली आपूर्ति तुरंत बहाल नहीं होती, जिससे रोजमर्रा की जिंदगी प्रभावित होती है।
सूचना मिलने पर पुलिस मौके पर पहुंची और महिलाओं व ग्रामीणों को समझाकर स्थिति को शांत कराया। प्रदेश सरकार ने पहले ही आदेश दिया है कि 1 किलोवाट तक के कनेक्शन पर 30 दिन तक और 2 किलोवाट पर ₹200 माइनस होने तक बिजली नहीं काटी जाएगी।

Women carried smart meters on their heads to the electricity office and raised slogans against the department. The protest intensified as villagers sat on a धरना (sit-in) and demanded the removal of the meters.
High Bills and Technical Complaints
Villagers allege that smart meters show faster readings, resulting in higher bills despite low electricity usage. In several cases, balance decreases even without usage, leading to power cuts. People also claim that electricity is not restored immediately after recharge, affecting daily life.
After receiving information, police reached the spot and managed to calm the situation by talking to the protesters. The state government has already ordered that electricity should not be disconnected for up to 30 days for connections up to 1 kW, and up to ₹200 negative balance for 2 kW connections.
The growing opposition to smart meters in Agra is raising serious concerns about the electricity system and billing process.
