US Midterm Elections: Trump Faces Popularity Test as Battle for Congress Intensifies
US Midterm Elections: The US midterm elections have become a major test for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Rising living costs, higher fuel prices and the ongoing war with Iran are among the key concerns for voters. The results will determine which party controls the US Congress.
Voting is taking place in the United States for the midterm elections, which are being viewed as an important political test for President Donald Trump. The elections will determine control of Congress at a challenging time for the Republican Party, with two years remaining in Trump’s presidency.
Rising Cost of Living Becomes a Major Election Issue
The rising cost of living has emerged as one of the biggest concerns among American voters. Higher food and fuel prices are affecting households across the country. Trump’s aggressive tariff policies and the ongoing war with Iran have also become major points of discussion during the election campaign.
Trump has faced declining approval ratings in recent months. However, he has continued campaigning across the country, holding rallies in several states. During the final campaign period, he visited Iowa and Kansas, traditionally considered strong Republican states.
Republicans Face Challenges in Traditionally Safe States
The Republican Party has increased its campaign spending in states such as Kansas, where the Senate race is attracting significant attention. Political observers believe the party is facing a more difficult contest than expected in some traditionally Republican areas.
Rising fuel prices and concerns about the economy have also influenced voter opinions. Some voters in Iowa expressed concerns that the current political and economic situation could negatively affect Republican candidates.
According to the report, diesel prices increased from $3.75 per gallon before the war began in February to $6.52 in September. Inflation also reportedly rose from 3% when Trump took office to 3.7%.
Trump’s Approval Rating Falls, but Democrats Face Their Own Challenges
Pre-election polls placed Trump’s approval rating at around 38%. However, the Democratic Party is also facing challenges in gaining public support. A national poll indicated that only 29% of voters viewed the Democratic Party positively.
This suggests that dissatisfaction with Trump’s policies does not automatically mean voters will support Democratic candidates. Some Republican voters have expressed concerns about Trump’s recent decisions but remain unwilling to switch their political support to the Democrats.
Democrats Hope to Gain Control of the House
Democrats are hopeful of winning control of the House of Representatives. If they secure a majority, they could attempt to block some of Trump’s legislative proposals and challenge his administration’s policies.
Control of the House would also allow Democrats to launch investigations into the Trump administration. The party could potentially consider impeachment proceedings against some members of Trump’s cabinet.
Senate Control Remains a Difficult Challenge for Democrats
Winning control of the Senate is expected to be more difficult for the Democratic Party. A total of 35 Senate seats are up for election, and Democrats need a net gain of at least four seats to take control.
Key Senate races are being closely watched in Michigan, Texas, Ohio, Iowa, Maine, Alaska and North Carolina. Several of these contests are considered close, making them crucial to the overall election outcome.
Midterm Results Could Shape the 2028 Presidential Election
The results of the midterm elections could influence the political strategies of both parties ahead of the 2028 presidential election.
Democrats will be looking at whether they can expand their support in states such as Texas and attract more voters in traditionally Republican rural areas. The election results may also help the party assess its potential candidates and political direction.
For Trump, the elections offer an opportunity for voters to express their views on his performance and the direction of his administration. The outcome could determine how much political influence he retains during the remaining two years of his presidency.
